Seriously?

When I saw "Gabriel's Oboe" on the list for this week's Pops Concert, I was excited to play the beautiful melody that was made famous by the movie "The Mission". Imagine my surprise to receive a "Tacet" (i.e. "don't play") sheet in my folder for that piece. Gabriel's Oboe without an oboe part? Seriously?
When we got to that piece in rehearsal, I was really curious to hear who was going to play that melody. I should have known....it's a trumpet solo. Doc Severinsen gets to play it. Figures. Ah, well, it's his show.
I think the "Tacet" sheet might be suitable for framing, though.

The Tooth Fairy Comes Again

Sam lost his 4th/5th teeth tonight, the victims of a couch wrestling match with Andrew! No, he didn't lose two teeth, just one big one. When Sam was a baby, two of his teeth came in fused together, so he's always had a "big tooth" on the bottom. Our dentist said that two adult teeth should grow in when the fused tooth falls out.
Sam is expecting that the tooth fairy will leave a $2 bill for the big tooth. I wonder if she's been to the bank today?

V-day and beyond

We celebrated Valentine's day on Saturday with stuffed gorillas, $2 bills, and a day-long sugar fest that makes me want Fun Dip outlawed. Sam also had a basketball game in the morning, and you might notice that he was again matched up against a girl in pigtails (this girl had really cool sparkly black high-tops with pink laces).
Tonight, Sam and Andrew are spending the night with the Harvey's, and Alan and I are having a belated Valentine's night out. Dinner here http://www.tulio.com, then http://www.asmf.org/html/concerts/16-feb-09.html.

A Shoe-Tying Expert

Sam made it into the Kindergarten shoe-tying club this week. To get in, you have to tie someone else's shoes, then they walk across the room and the shoes have to stay tied. Then, you get to write your name on the giant shoe that's on the wall of the class. Isn't Kindergarten great?
Sam has gotten really good, and fast, at tying his shoes now. I think he's better than Andrew, who has never had the patience to practice it as much as Sam has.
